Yonge and Dundas Square Comes to Life
Anyone who was planning on having a nice quiet dinner on one of the many patios around Yonge and Dundas Square Thursday night would have been sorely disappointed when Fucked Up arrived; their volume and energy took little time to stand out amongst the heavy traffic and flashing ads.
California punk legends Descendents were the main event, but Toronto’s own Fucked Up undoubtedly stole the show with an unhinged set that brought their version of hardcore to the streets.
As the first notes rang out from their three-guitar-assault, it was clear that front man Damian “Pink Eyes” Abraham had little interest in staying put, as he leapt into the crowd and continued to perform amongst them for the duration of the show.
Abraham’s spirited antics were definitely the highlight, but they wouldn’t have been possible had the rest of the band not flawlessly played through cuts from their recently-released album, David Comes to Life, as well as older fan-favourites like “I Hate Summer” and “Son the Father.”
